About the Author

Sybilla Beckmann earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics from Brown University and her PhD in mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania. For two years, she researched and taught mathematics as the J.W. Gibbs Instructor of Mathematics at Yale University. Since then, she has been at the University of Georgia, where she was recently awarded the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor of Mathematics, and directs the Mathematicians Educating Future Teachers (MEFT) component of the University of Georgia math department’s VIGRE II grant.

Sybilla is actively involved in helping prospective teachers understand and appreciate the mathematics they will teach. She was a member of the writing team of NCTM’s Curriculum Focal Points for pre-kindergarten through 8th grade mathematics. She was also a member of the Committee on Early Childhood Mathematics of the National Research Council, and co-author of its report, Mathematics Learning in Early Childhood: Path toward Excellence and Equity; she has worked on the development of several state mathematics standards; and she was a member of the Mathematics Writing Team for the Common Core State Standards Initiative. Several years ago, Dr. Beckmann taught daily at an average sixth grade math class at a local public school in order to better understand teaching mathematics at the school level.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano, weaving, attending classical music concerts, and traveling with her family.

Good book, but no access code!

I ordered this book for my college math class, and it is great for that. But didn't come with an access code to use the online portion of it, and so now I have to pay another $100 for the access code. So frustrating!

This book was required for one of my education courses. I decided to purchase it because I'd like to have resources on had for when I become a teacher. I don't regret deciding to purchase this, as opposed to renting it, one bit. This is a great text with tons of resources and information for use in your classroom. I constantly here, don't reinvent the wheel! This is too true. It's important to purchase great resources as a teacher. It will make your like much easier.

The only thing I found disappointing was there was no authorization code in the textbook. Other than that, it was a pleasure using this textbook. I strongly suggest getting a hardcover because this is a very large book.

About the Author
For Elaine N. Marieb, taking the student's perspective into account has always been an integral part of her teaching style. Dr. Marieb began her teaching career at Springfield College, where she taught anatomy and physiology to physical education majors. She then joined the faculty of the Biological Science Division of Holyoke Community College in 1969 after receiving her Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. While teaching at Holyoke Community College, where many of her students were pursuing nursing degrees, she developed a desire to better understand the relationship between the scientific study of the human body and the clinical aspects of the nursing practice. To that end, while continuing to teach full time, Dr. Marieb pursued her nursing education, which culminated in a Master of Science degree with a clinical specialization in gerontology from the University of Massachusetts. It is this experience, along with stories from the field-including those of former students, now in health careers-that has informed the development of the unique perspective and accessibility for which her texts and laboratory manuals are known. In her ongoing commitment to students and her realization of the challenges they face, Dr. Marieb has given generously to provide opportunities for students to further their education. She contributes to the New Directions, New Careers Program at Holyoke Community College by providing several full-tuition scholarships each year for women returning to college after a hiatus or who are attending college for the first time and would otherwise be unable to continue with their studies without financial support. She funds the E. N. MariebScience Research Awards at Mount Holyoke College, which promotes research by undergraduate science majors, and generously contributed to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she provided funding for reconstruction and instrumentation of a cutting-edge cytology research laboratory that bears her name. In 1994, Dr. Marieb received the Benefactor Award from the National Council for Resource Development, American Association of Community Colleges, which recognizes her ongoing sponsorship of student scholarships, faculty teaching awards, and other academic contributions to Holyoke Community College. In May 2000, the science building at Holyoke Community College was named in her honor. Additionally, while actively engaged as an author, Dr. Marieb serves as a consultant for the Benjamin Cummings "InterActive Physiology¨" CD-ROM series, and is an active member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS). "Anatomy & Physiology," Second Edition is the latest expression of her commitment to student needs in their pursuit of the study of A&P.

Makes Learning Material Really Easy to Understand

The material itself goes in a little more detail than I need for my freshman year nursing class but the book makes it really easy to pick out the parts that are helpful for my class so I never have to read about stuff that isnt relevant to me. However because of the interesting wording of the book and many informative pictures, I find myself reading way more than my class covers anyway :)

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has any interest in antaomy and physiology because this information is laid out in such an easily to understand and very interesting way. It was definitely worth the money to buy and will probably be one of those books that I dont sell back after my class is over.

I love this book!

I had to buy this book for my A & P class in nursing school. The way the textbook is written makes it really easy to understand, and I like the way the chapters are laid out.

Although I am past A & P (and didn't sell back this book! crazy, right?), I frequently refer this textbook when I want to to brush up on a topic!

A textbook to hold on to

This textbook is wonderfully written and illustrated. It is a very large and heavy book so keep that in mind for backpack storage. The supporting study tools are excellent supplements although very overpriced. The lab manual that accompanies this is largely just a repeat of the text.

chock full of mistakes and inconsistencies with the 7th edition of Bruice's textbook (okay... maybe 1 for every 25 problems or so). explanations are limited in many cases. it is okay, better than nothing, and i am glad to have it. but you are honestly WAY better off with a chegg subscription, which has better and detailed explanations, might be proofread by other users, and will have solutions for other textbooks.

Martha Siegel holds a BA from Russell Sage College, attended Rensselear Polytechnic Institute as a special student, and received his PhD at the University of Rochester. From 1966 until 1971 she taught at Goucher University in Baltimore. Since 1971 she has been a professor at Towson State University, also in Maryland. Professor Siegel has been on the writing team of this book since the fifth edition and is also the co-author of a precalculus reform book.

The book was necessary for class. It was delivered on time. It was in brand new condition as stated. I just wish they included a binder with the book because it is looseleaf.

About the Author
Carl T. Dahlman earned degrees in sociology, music, and urban affairs before receiving his Ph.D. in geography from the University of Kentucky in 2001. He is the Director of the International Studies Program at Miami University, where his teaching focuses on political geography, migration and mobility, and globalization. His current research includes the role of European integration in the geopolitics of Southeastern Europe, and he has published a book on the subject, Bosnia Remade: Ethnic Cleansing and Its Reversal (Oxford University Press, with Gearóid Ó Tuathail). He is a co-author of Pearson’s Introduction to Contemporary Geography, with James M. Rubenstein and William H. Renwick. He enjoys photography and hunting for fossils with his son.

William H. Renwick earned a B.A. from Rhode Island College in 1973 and a Ph.D. in geography from Clark University in 1979. He has taught at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Rutgers University, and is currently Associate Professor of Geography at Miami University. A physical geographer with interests in geomorphology and environmental issues, his research focuses on impacts of land-use change on rivers and lakes, particularly in agricultural landscapes in the Midwest.
